NEW COFFEE: KENYA KIUNYU-KIRINYAGA AA
From Kenya, we bring you one of the most exclusive and delicious coffees: Kiunyu–Kirinyaga AA.
The Kiunyu Coffee Factory is located deep within the tea-zone of Kirinyaga County. Established in the 1960s, the Kiunyu Factory receives coffee from farmers living in nearby villages. The main varietals of coffee grown in the region are SL 34 and Ruiru 11, with SL 34 accounting for 99% of all coffee handled by this factory.
Coffee in Kenya is typically traceable down to the factory or mill level. Most farmers own between 1/8 and 1/4 of a hectare and also grow crops other than coffee. Farmers deliver the coffee in cherry form to the factory, where it is sorted and weighed.
The annual harvest of the Kenya Kiunyu-Kirinyaga coffee occurs in August-January and these particular specialty coffee beans are then processed by the washed method. This Kenya Kiunyu-Kirinyaga is a third wave coffee and fresh roasted coffee, greatly appreciated for its rich and sweet flavor notes, with hints of caramel, lemon, and bright lime.
