The Trendy Hario V60 Brewing Method
Just because a coffee brewing method is trendy doesn’t necessarily mean it’s any good. In the case of the Hario v60 method however, v60 coffee has a well-deserved reputation for being truly outstanding.
If looking to brew a gorgeously smooth and sediment-free coffee favoured by connoisseurs on a global basis, the Hario v60 method ticks all the right boxes. Unashamedly posh and precise to say the least, the Hario v60 has become something of a must-have for those who take their coffee very seriously.
What's a V60?
If this is your first time coming across the concept, the Hario v60 is an extremely high-end coffee dripper that’s manufactured using high-quality copper, glass, plastic or ceramic. A variety of different sizes are also available, in accordance with your requirements but the basic principles of the Hario v60 follow those of coffee drippers in general, though on a somewhat more sophisticated level.
What’s Needed to Brew with a Hario v60
If looking to make a cup of coffee with this outstanding piece of kit, you’re going to need a fair few accessories which include:
- The Hario v60 itself
- Filtered water of the highest quality
- A kettle or heating device
- Fresh roasted coffee beans
- A high-quality grinder
- V60 Range server
- V60 Paper filters
- Drip scales
- Cup or glass
There are plenty of ‘imitation’ versions of the device on the market right now, but many argue that v60 coffee goes over and above all copycats across the board.
How to Brew Coffee Using the V60 coffee Dripper
In terms of how to make it work, the process is a little on the complex side but is definitely worth the investment. The steps you’ll need to take look like this:
- Heat approximately 600 ml of water
- Add the filter paper to the V60 and pour a little hot water over to preheat it
- Remove the water from the receptacle and add the coffee grounds - place around 15g of medium-fine grounds in the filter
- Reset the weight on the scales to zero
- Pour a small amount of water over the coffee grounds and allow to soak through
- Repeat the process without pouring on to the filter itself and continue until the scales read 250g
- Pour the coffee into your favourite cup and enjoy!
Of course, you could look at the above and argue that it represents a pretty extreme process when looking to brew a simple cup of coffee. Which it is, but there are nonetheless thousands of coffee lovers on a global basis to swear that the v60 coffee method has the potential to result in one of the best cups of coffee you’ve ever experienced.
Perhaps not the best approach when looking for a quick and easy cup, but when looking to settle down with something truly extraordinary, you may find that v60 coffee takes some beating!
